Temperature insulating
Many types of plastic have a relatively low thermal conductivity. This makes them ideal raw materials for use as hot and cold insulation, engine components and certain textiles.
Foam plastic materials, such as polystyrene used as building insulation, have a particularly low conductivity. Think of the difference between holding steaming hot coffee in a foam cup, or in a metal tumbler. |
